USA: Eminent Jurists Panel concludes US hearings

The Eminent Jurists Panel on Terrorism, Counter-terrorism and Human Rights, concluded its visit to Washington, D.C., on 14 September 2006.
The US hearing was the 7th hearing following visits to Australia, Colombia, East Africa, Britain and Northern Ireland, and North Africa.
During its visit to Washington D.C., the panel held public hearings on 6-8 September 2006, during which it heard testimony reflecting a wide range of perspectives, including from family members of victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks, former administration officials, bar associations, leading academics and lawyers, doctors, professional associations, national and international human rights organisations and counter-terrorism experts.
The panel also held high-level meetings with government officials, including from the Department of State, the Department of Defence, the Department of Homeland Security, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the National Security Council.
