Northern Ireland Hearing

On 19 and 20 April, the Eminent Jurists Panel held a hearing in Belfast, to understand which lessons can be learnt from the events and the history of Northern Ireland.
During the hearing, Arthur Chaskalson and Raśl Zaffaroni heard from academics, legal practitioners, representatives of non-governmental organisations, the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission, political parties, victims of terrorist and counter-terrorist operations and their family members, as well as from the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the Courts Service, the judiciary, the Public Prosecution Service, the Law Society and the Bar Council.
The hearing was the fourth in a series of hearings within the global inquiry of the Panel into the impact of terrorism and counter-terrorism on human rights and the rule of law. It was which was co-organised with the Committee for the Administration of Justice (CAJ).
